Indiaart Gallery is delighted to present this beautiful collection of Banaras paintings by Yashwant Shirwadkar which will be his 95th solo show. For more than four decades, the name Shirwadkar has become synonymous with Banaras, such is the magic of his paintings.

Banaras symbolises a unique continuum in the history of human civilisation as it is one of the oldest continuously inhabited cities of the world. The spiritual capital of India, it is the holiest of the seven sacred cities in Hinduism and Jainism and has played an important role in development of Buddhism.

Yashwant Shirwadkar’s masterly treatment of the ghats of Banaras with his palette knife in Oil on Canvas brings out the splendour of these architectural marvels and at the same time captures the holy spirit of these magnificent edifices which line up Ganga ( The Ganges ),  the mother of all Indian rivers.
